  1. "Film Out"

BTS, the Best (stylized in all caps) is the second Japanese-language compilation anthology by South Korean boy band BTS. It was released on June sixteen, 2021, through Large Hit Music and Universal Music. The album is a compilation of their last two Japanese-language studio albums Face Yourself (2018) and Map of the Soul: seven – The Journey (2020). It was a commercial success, reaching number one on Nippon's Oricon Chart and went on to become the offset ever Korean male group to surpass 1 1000000 album sales mark in Japan alone and besides had the biggest showtime week sales for an album in Nippon in 2021.[1] [2]

Background [edit]

BTS announced the release of a new Japanese vocal, "Film Out" on February sixteen, 2021.[3] The song was written by BTS member Jungkook in collaboration with Iyori Shimizu, the vocalist of Japanese stone ability trio Dorsum Number.[four] It is slated to serve every bit the ending theme song of the movie Indicate the Movie Cold Case Investigation Unit (2021).[5] On March 26, the band released the music video teaser of the song and simultaneously announced the release of a new Japanese-language album, BTS, the All-time.[6] The rails listing was also announced simultaneously.[7] The album contains all of the ring's previous Japanese releases since 2017, while including their English-language 2020 single, "Dynamite" as a bonus track.[8] Seven versions of the anthology had been announced with various supportive materials in each version, such as different posters, photo cards and artwork.[9]

Commercial performance [edit]

BTS, the All-time debuted at number ane on Oricon's Daily Album Chart dated June xv, 2021, with 571,589 physical copies sold in a single day to become the best-selling album of the twelvemonth upon release.[x] [11] It debuted atop the Oricon Albums Chart for the week catastrophe June 28, 2021, with 782,369 copies sold,[12] recording the highest first week sales past a male strange artist, and the 2nd-highest offset week sales for a foreign creative person in Oricon chart history following Mariah Carey'due south greatest hits album #1's which sold one.047 meg copies its opening week in 1998.[13] The album spent 3 consecutive weeks at number ane and sold over 885,000 copies in that fourth dimension.[14] Information technology also topped the Digital Anthology Chart, selling 7,603 digital copies in its release week.[fifteen] On Billboard Japan's Hot Albums chart, BTS, the Best entered atop, selling an estimated 807,000 units.[16] [17]

On December 22, Oricon announced that BTS, the Best was the all-time-selling physical album of 2021 in Nihon with sales of 992,837 copies[eighteen] per data aggregated during the menstruation dated December fourteen, 2020 to December 12, 2021. BTS are the first group in Oricon history, the first foreign creative person in 37 years since Michael Jackson with Thriller (sold 575,000 copies 1984), and the 3rd foreign creative person overall following Elvis Presley in 1971 (sold 225,000 copies of "You Don't Have to Say You Dearest Me") and the same Jackson, to superlative the yr-end album sales ranking.[13] The album was additionally the fifth all-time-performing digital album of the yr with 21,082 downloads.[19] In January 2022, the album surpassed 1 million copies on Oricon Japan, making it the kickoff album by a South Korean group in history to achieve this, and the first past a foreign act in over xvi years.[twenty]
